The release triggered political fallout internationally. Slovakia's national security adviser Miroslav Lajcak resigned after emails showed him discussing women with Epstein. In the U.K., former Labour Party Cabinet member Peter Mandelson resigned from the party after files revealed multiple $75,000 payments to Epstein in 2003-2004. Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit described Epstein as "soft-hearted" and a "sweetheart" in emails, at one point asking "Is it inappropriate for a mother to suggest two naked women carrying a surfboard for my 15 yr old sons wallpaper?" She later described the association as "simply embarrassing."
